Anchorage Fur Rendezvous' Grand Prix car race will be back on the agenda of Anchorage's winter festival this year after two years off the program, Fur Rondy officials said this week. Officials said the return was made possible by the sponsorship of the Morrison Auto Group and GCI.
The race will take place on March 6 and 8, with the starting line at Third Avenue and Ingra Street. The lot that formerly held the old Native hospital will serve as the pit area. Drivers will negotiate a .79-mile course, according to Rondy officials.
For years one of the most popular events of Fur Rondy, the race lost its sponsors and ceased being part of the Rondy program. It had been billed as the nation's oldest street race.
Dwight Bowden, who is a member of the Alaska Region for many years, is once again going to be racing in this years Grand Prix, come out and cheer for him if you are going to come out for Rondy this year!!
